THE stage is set for the eighth edition of the Great Zimbabwe Bike Rally that will take place in the country’s ancient city of Masvingo from March 22 to 24.
The event which is organised by the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) and Titanium Motorcycle Club, has over the years attracted a good number of bikers from the SADC Region with countries like Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Namibia, Mozambique, Lesotho, South Africa and Zambia among others expected to grace the rally.
Spicer Munjeri, the vice-president of Titanium Motorcycles Zimbabwe, said they expect over 150 participants.
Registration will be on March 22.
“We are going to be hosting the rally at Flamboyant Hotel. Besides showcasing our bikes, we will be donating to Alpha Cottages, we are also running a pads drive for the Girl Child and a pants and socks drive for the boys,” said Munjeri.
Founder and former president of Titanium Motorcycle Club Zimbabwe, Pumulani Ncube, said on March 23 they will have a mass and street charity ride.
“We will host the mass and street charity ride carnival, where all proceeds go towards charity. We are happy to be back in Masvingo for the GZ8 Rally. We thank the government of Zimbabwe for its support through the ministry of Tourism and the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority” said Ncube.
The mass bike ride around Masvingo is expected to run through various suburbs to give fans some entertainment. The main purpose of the event is to gather bikers from within and outside Zimbabwe and promote tourism in the process.
The main event, Ride to Great Zimbabwe Monuments, which is the crowd puller will be held on the last day.
He said they are working with the Masvingo City Council and Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) to ensure everything is above board and as law abiding citizens, the club always wants to do things in an orderly and disciplined manner for the safety of the bikers and the spectators.
“We urge all bike enthusiasts, fans and residents of Masvingo to come out, meet and support the bikers, as they ride around, and also to enjoy the activities at the street party and the adrenaline rush brought by the sound and speed from the bikes,’’ said Ncube.
