A high-level stakeholder meeting on land tenure reforms is now underway in Harare, bringing together Government, financial sector executives, agribusiness leaders, legal experts and development partners.
Lands and Rural Development Minister Vangelis Haritatos is among senior Government officials attending the meeting, which is being organised by the Stakeholders Engagement Subcommittee of the Land Tenure Implementation Committee (LTIC).
LTIC chairman Dr Kuda Tagwirei is also present at the engagement, which is focusing on accelerating land tenure reforms, issuing title deeds and unlocking the economic value of agricultural land.
Key issues under discussion include improving land administration, making title deeds bankable, strengthening investor confidence and creating a more efficient land allocation and registration system.
The meeting is also expected to examine the proposed “One Stop” title processing mechanism aimed at curbing double allocations, resolving boundary disputes and preventing illegal evictions.
Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube is expected to address the role of secure land tenure in unlocking agricultural finance, while Agriculture, Mechanisation and Water Resources Development Minister Dr Anxious Masuka will focus on commercialising agriculture.
Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi is expected to outline Zimbabwe’s land tenure trajectory and the importance of title deeds in strengthening confidence in the sector.
The high-level engagement is expected to conclude with an interactive plenary session involving stakeholders from the financial, legal and traditional leadership sectors.
