Standing firm against all odds

(Ephesians 6 vs 10 – 20).
Standing is not easy. One can get fatigued and exhausted and fall. Or simply, lose the will and power to live. One cannot stand without some form of help and support.

So this is when we see God literally bringing in people to help. Apparently God expects us to stand. He knows it might be tough for us to stand. He has therefore put mechanisms for us to stand.

I am not a Bible student. I have, however, discovered God’s mechanisms through The University of Life. This is the best and most sustainable way of learning — through life experiences.

The first mechanism
God has put in place salvation: receiving Jesus Christ, The Son of The Living God as your personal Lord and Saviour. The second mechanism is His Word: the Bible. Partaking of The Word of God strengthens and solidifies. Dwelling in God’s Word enables us not to be blown by every wind of doctrine. The third mechanism is not to forget the gathering and fellowship with other saints.
You see the enemy who is the devil would love people to be isolated so that he can devour them.

But when you are with others, he stands no chance. Prayer is key. Nothing beats prayer, especially corporate prayer. Praying with others draws a circle of strength.

Because where two or more are gathered in God’s name, He is there. There is security and safety in prayer. God’s gift to me, my son and I Through The University of Life, I have found that God brings people my way to help me stand. To stand firm so that He creates testimonies and messages of hope out of the tests and messes that life brings. Mark 2 verses 1–12 is a clear indication that God uses friends and family to help us reach our destiny.

There is no way that that paralytic could have received forgiveness of sins and healing without his friends. His friends carried him, made an opening in the roof and lowered him into the room that Christ was in.

The man was forgiven and healed by Jesus Christ. My son’s trust has been a lot of sweat and hard work by friends and family who literally put me on a mat, made a hole on the roof and lowered me right onto Christ’s knees where God expects me to stand still and know that God is God.

Today my son’s Trust is up and running —Little by little, line upon line, precept upon precept. I thank God for my family and friends. They have worked tirelessly, affirming and encouraging me throughout. Mai Kagoro would say “do something for him.” Florence would say “do it for your son.

If you cannot do it no one will. You can do it. You carry his passion”. Victoria would say “I will break my legs running to be on your side”. And she would be on my side. Ngoni would say “I know you know nothing about animals and the environment and wildlife but I do. This is our son. We will do it together.

I will teach you.” And she did and continues to teach me. Semu would encourage me and say “today you are sounding stronger so go and see Ngoni”. Pastor Tommy would say “You are an amazing mother”.

Winston would say “The one thing that will definitely keep you going is your love for God. God will never leave you nor forsake you”. Madrine and Wadza always and always running around, interceding and praying for me. Then Sta would remind me of Mai Cuthbert and Cuthbert.

Jessica would compile, read and advise on the Trust Deed Document. Bvumai would say “Thank you so much for doing this for Richard. Thank you.” Kevin would say “Its ok, you can plant the tree at the school.” The Word of God has and continues to keep me sane. I guess I will never know what it would have been without God. I did not try it and one thing I know is that I will not try to do this without Christ.

God has been faithful and I say Ebeneezer, The Lord has brought me this far. I almost gave up on everything especially The Trust.
In fact I did give up. God then revealed to me that this is my son Kevin, not somebody else’s child. This is my only child Kevin. God started reminding of the things that I used to do for and with Kevin. God reminded me of some of the tough and unpopular decisions that I took for Kevin in spite of and regardless of some external factors. God said to me, “Remember how you went ahead anyway and took the narrower route. You always made yourself and your son very happy.”

God then assured me that He will be with me throughout even in my weakness and in my imperfection. I realised I was weak and helpless. I would try but I would find myself broken, shattered, discouraged and a complete wreck. I just will not give up in life. If I cannot run, I walk; if I cannot walk, I crawl; if I cannot crawl, then I roll. I just make sure I keep at it.

I will not give up. I am taking it one step at a time.” I march on with one task in mind. Not a hill or a pebble will discourage me from my task.
There are many obstacles that will get in my way and try to persuade me to quit but I have a task to complete. Even though I am a very small part of this world, I was given a task by God and I will endure and persevere. Not by might, nor by power but by God’s Holy Spirit.
For mums out there, do your level best for your sons and daughters. Know their passions and interest. Run with them. Jog with them. Travel with them. Laugh with them. Rebuke and don’t spare the rod. Dine with them and watch TV with them.

I thank God that Jehovah revealed to me my son’s passion. RKR was a true environmental and wildlife man. He made me study ants and their behaviour for four hours when he was twelve. When I go into his wardrobe today, I find hunting and walking shoes, back packs, and the whole lot. I thank God that He gave me the spiritual eye to discern and understand my son a long time ago. I supported his extra curriculum activities especially the wildlife club at his school. How that happened, only God knows.

Let us support our sons and daughters. Let us know who they are. It is ok to fight and wrestle with them on life issues. God knows and loves that. After all children are a blessing from God.

They are a heritage. Happy is a man who has a quiver full of them. They will stand and laugh at their enemies by the gate.
For mums whose sons and daughters are sleeping and resting in God, God will continue to reveal to us what to do. We are chosen of God. We are His Generals. God is so proud of us.

He will always be on our side. When the enemy comes in like a flood, God raises a standard. He is Jehovah El Shaddai.
He knows our strength. Otherwise He would not have allowed this to happen. Let us look the devil in the eye and see who blinks first. Certainly not us. We have no fear. We have nothing to lose.

God has made us bold and confident in Jesus Christ’s Name. Jehovah God will enable us to continue squaring up our shoulders and holding our heads high in The Mighty Name of Jesus Christ.
