Over 200 finalists from different parts of Zimbabwe checked into boot camp on Monday at Sanganai Creek at Mazvikadei in Banket as preparations for the third season of the national talent show, Star Brite intensifies.The group, according to the show’s executive director, Barney Mpariwa, will be at the camp site until Friday when they will be screened for the semi finals.
“We have over 100 acts that comprise of singers, dance groups and poets. We went all out this year in ensuring that we scout for talent in all parts of the country. While in camp, they are going to be screened so that we are left with at least 15 groups of musicians and up t0 15 groups of actors and poets,” he said.
The executive director added that his staff had the capacity to accommodate all the finalists that include people with special needs as well as inmates.
He said acts from local prisons had already had their separate two-day boot camp at Harare Central Prison over the weekend.
“We made intensive preparations and partnered with different people in order to accommodate people from different backgrounds. The boot camp staff will ensure all participants are comfortable so they only need to focus on their talents and delivering polished acts,” he said.
Meanwhile, various programmes have been lined up for the week and these include intensive training in vocals and respective performances. Team building activities will also be undertaken as the show’s producers were aiming at building future stars.
“We do not operate in a vacuum and because of that we are training the finalists on the importance of proper interaction with people that surround them. This will also be considered as we eliminate participants throughout the week,” said Mpariwa.
As is the norm in the past seasons the show will be commemorating influential artistes in the local industry.
“This year we are celebrating the work of Mbuya Stella Chiweshe. She has played a big role in putting our local music out there and for that the show will pay homage to her. The finalists who will make it through to the semi finals will be tasked with including her work in their performances,” he said.
Mpariwa concluded by applauding sponsors that stood by them in making the show what it is today.
“This year’s edition has improved in terms of qSuality of our production. This is mainly because we have support from corporates and we are getting by.
