Popular radio station Star FM presenters Phatisani Sibanda and Kudzai Violet Gwara (KVG), who were broadcasting live from UK, said the response was overwhelming and encouraging. The duo, behind the 326 Express show said the response shows that the radio station was simply the best and people in the Diaspora loved it. Live broadcasts were coming from Dunstable, Luton and London.“The response was overwhelming and I never knew Star FM was this popular in the Diaspora,” said Sibanda.
He said they had a great time as they met people from Zimbabwe expressing how they always listen to the radio station.
“They love Star FM because the programme gives them updates about what is going on back home,” he added.
Sibanda was ecstatic about the tour saying it was a good development for the radio station.
“We were taking radio to the people and the tour was meant for that. I am happy that besides taking radio to the people we had to know more about how our sisters and brothers are living there,” he said.
KVG said it was a good experience that would be relished in her career.
“We appreciate the love we got from the people in the UK. As presenters it gives us confidence if there are people out there who love us. Star FM is very popular there,” said Gwara.
Zimpapers public relations and corporate affairs manager Beatrice Tonhodzayi last week said the tour marked the beginning of the new theme “Taking radio to the World”.
“As Zimpapers we are proud and excited that Star FM continues to make waves, scaling new heights. The tour marked the beginning of our new theme “Taking Radio to the World,” she said.
She said it was encouraging that Star FM became the first radio station to reach out to the people in the Diaspora.
“Star FM has shown innovation, thanks to sponsors who have come aboard for the tour.
“This is a month of fireworks as we celebrate our fourth anniversary and we just say more partners and advertisers should come on board.”
