Star FM wins Zim Achievers award

Popular radio station Star FM has added another accolade to its decorated cabinet after scooping the Best Media Organisation ahead of ZiFM, Daily News, The Herald and NewsDay at Zimbabwe Achievers Awards held at five-star Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington, London last weekend. The sixth annual awards gala saw Jah Prayzah, Kelvin Ncube, Nyasha Duri, Nicola Holden, Professor Ben Chigara and Nkosinathi Zvimba among others emerging victors.The prestigious show was held under the theme ‘Celebrating Women in Media and the Arts’ and later honoured five women excelling in the media,music and the arts industry.

Head of publicity for Columbia Records, Sony Music Entertainment, Taponeswa Mavunga, Forbes’ Magazine contributor Farai Gundan, award-winning writer Petina Gappah and actress Chipo Chung were among the women who received the Chairman’s special recognition award for making remarkable, consistent and outstanding contributions to the Zimbabwean community in the country and abroad.

In an interview, Zimpapers public relations and cooperate affairs manager Beatrice Tonhodzayi, said was excited with the award as it will go a long way in developing the station.

“As Zimpapers, we are so honoured to have the award.

If you look back since last year, we have been doing immensely well. For us it is a milestone achievement.

This means that our leaders in the organisation are working hard to to make things happen as they are. Getting a recognition in the Diaspora is a great achievement because we have online streaming and our audiences are in many countries. This means we are relevant.

We put our listeners first, taking radio to the people concept has been doing so well,” she said.

The show saw Gemma Griffiths thrilling the crowd as she did her rendition of Winky D’s “Musarova Bigman”.

This years awards were proudly sponsored by Econet and Local Care Force among others.
