Radio royalty Kudzai Violet Gwara, popularly known as KVG, is set to bring her unmatched energy and stage charisma to Bulawayo next month alongside MC Merciless Zim to host the highly anticipated Bulawayo Shutdown gig.
Confident, stylish, and magnetic both on screen and stage, the Star FM presenter has emerged as one of Zimbabwe’s most sought-after MCs and brand influencers. Fans have long admired her stage chemistry with Winky D, often joining him to perform parts of hit songs like MuGarden, a move that never fails to excite audiences and showcase her untapped singing talent.
The Shutdown taking place on December 27 promises a star-studded lineup, with Winky D headlining alongside South African sensations KO and Young Stunna. Local talent will also feature heavily, including Mzoe7, Metty Intomb’emfitshane, Noluntu J, Fab G Mshanakagogo, Bhila, Ma9nine, Insimbi ZeZhwane, Silent Killer, Jnr Spragga, Hulengende, Chillmaster, and rising star Ngwere Diki.
KVG’s rise in the entertainment scene has been nothing short of remarkable. She first captured the nation’s attention on Star FM’s 326 Express show, initially co-hosting with Phathisani Sibanda. When Phathisani left, many questioned whether KVG could hold her own, but she quickly proved her worth, maintaining a loyal following while attracting new listeners and becoming a dominant force in radio broadcasting.
Beyond radio, KVG has carved out a name for herself as a host of high-profile gigs, from the Kadoma Music Festival and Coca-Cola Food Fest to Winky D’s Tete A Tete album launch and Nubian Notes. She has also secured multiple endorsement deals, cementing her position as one of the country’s most visible and influential personalities.
Her musical talent remains a tantalising prospect for fans. Speaking previously about her love for singing, KVG revealed: “I’ve always loved singing. Before I started my broadcasting career, I once went for a musical show audition, and unfortunately, I didn’t make it.
“After that, I auditioned for radio and made it, but music was always something I was open to, I just never got a chance to pursue it.”
