Star rallies roll into Mat’land

ALL roads lead to Somhlolo Stadium in Lupane today where President Mugabe will addresshis first star rally in Matabeleland ahead of the forthcoming 31 July watershed electionsPresident Mugabe who is also the First Secretary for Zanu-PF is expected to address thousands of people from the seven districts in the province.

Zanu-PF National Chairman Cde Simon Khaya Moyo yesterday said President Mugabe would be visiting   Matabeleland   provinces   to   consolidate support   for   Zanu-PF   to   ensure   that   the   party   registers   a resounding   victory   in   the   forthcoming polls.

“Presidential star rallies are continuing across the country and they are attracting huge crowds. Tomorrow His Excellency, President Mugabe will be in Lupane, Matabeleland North. On Saturday he will be in Matabeleland South, the province for heroes such as the late Vice President Joshua Nkomo, Jason Ziyaphapha Moyo, George Silundika, Sikhwili Moyo and many others who pioneered the liberation struggle,” said Cde Khaya Moyo.

Meanwhile, Matabeleland North provincial chairman Cde Richard Moyo said people in his province were elated to host the President.
‘We are ready to host the President. As we speak 30 buses have been sent to transport people from all districts.

“Umguza district has 10 buses, Victoria Falls and Hwange have five buses each while Nkayi, Binga, Bubi, Lupane and Tsholotsho have been allocated two buses each,” said Cde Moyo.

“The buses have been donated by Dr Obert Mpofu. Tsholotsho district has three additional trucks. These buses and trucks exclude other private vehicles that party members would use.

“This is a great day for Matabeleland North and we are so happy to meet our President. We have worked tirelessly to mobilise support for the party and we know the President will be impressed because Matabeleland North is no longer the losing ground. The province is totally different now.”

Tomorrow President Mugabe who is also the Head of State and Commander in Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces will hold another star rally at Pelandaba Stadium in Gwanda Town.

“All roads lead to Matabeleland South on Saturday and as a province we are happy to meet the people,” said Cde Andrew Langa, the provincial chairman for Matabeleland South and National Assembly candidate for Insiza North.

President Mugabe has been addressing star rallies since last week with tens and thousands of people attending, an indication that the revolutionary party is poised for victory come 31 July.
