AFTER having their duel postponed twice for varying reasons, Starbill and Karoi United eventually clashed at Rufaro yesterday and it was the hosts who had the last laugh after bagging full points in the World Navi Northern Region Division One fixture. A first half strike by former CAPS United man Edmore Chafungamoyo and a second period mistake by Karoi United goalkeeper Ronald Chakanyuka handed Starbill the victory.
Starbill’s line-up had a host of former CAPS United players including winger Tapiwa Mangezi whose cross found Chakanyuka sleeping and deflected off the goalkeeper into the nets.

The result left Starbill coach Ikabort Masocha a relieved man. The former Dougla Warriors gaffer said he was now looking forward to take the momentum to their next encounter against Royal Classic. “We did well and I hope we will carry the same form to the next assignment which will be at home. The boys did well despite missing several chances. We are happy with the result and we will continue to work hard,” said Masocha.

Luckson Phiri, the Karoi United coach blamed his depleted side after six of his seniors players did not turn up due to financial problems affecting the team.

“We did very well considering the team we had at our disposal as most of our players did not travel with us. We contained the Starbill as an away team and the blunder by the goalkeeper cost us a vital point,” said Phiri.
