TWELVE-YEAR-OLD Kayla Thomas is fast becoming a symbol of youthful creativity and purpose-driven talent in Zimbabwe.

A student at Wallitex College, Kayla recently caught the attention of music lovers and community leaders with her new song titled “Trabablas Interchange”, a track inspired by real-life changes in her community and its impact on her own family.

In an interview with Zimpapers Entertainment Hub, the young singer-songwriter shared the story behind her heartfelt composition.

“I was really excited to write the song,” said Kayla.

“Before the interchange was built, there used to be a big traffic jam at the roundabout.”

“My dad would get home really late every day from work. But since the Trabablas Interchange was constructed, things have changed he now gets home early, and that makes me happy,” she added.

The song stands out not only because of Kayla’s age but also because of its grounded, relatable message. It reflects the lived experiences of many Harare residents who have witnessed major infrastructural upgrades improve their daily lives.

Kayla’s mother, visibly proud of her daughter’s achievement, praised the child’s growing talent and sense of purpose.

“I’m so happy to see my daughter showing such a bright future,” she said. “She’s a clear example that girls can also do big things. Kayla wants to make people happy  and that includes us, her family. She makes us proud every day.”

The song, which is now complete, is currently being worked into a full music video, which is under production at Gart Studios by producer Antony Gatsani. The video is expected to visually capture the significance of the Trabablas Interchange and celebrate development through the eyes of a child.

Kayla’s music journey is only beginning, but with passion, talent, and a strong support system behind her, she is already proving that the future of Zimbabwean music is in safe hands.

Her voice mature, powerful, and emotionally rich has taken many by surprise. From school talent shows to church services, Kayla’s performances are leaving lasting impressions.

“I’ve always loved singing,” said Kayla. “But I never thought so many people would listen and support me like this.

“I’m writing songs that speak to people my age about confidence, bullying, friendship and dreams,” she explained.

What stands out most about Kayla is her desire to create music with a purpose.

“I want my music to heal people and make them feel strong,” she said. “I sing for the kids who are afraid to speak. I want them to know they’re not                                                                       alone.”

With her humble spirit and powerful voice, Kayla Thomas represents a new wave of youthful talent rising in Zimbabwe. And as she continues to inspire fans across the country, one thing is clear: the future of Zimbabwean music is in safe, passionate hands.

As Zimbabwe continues to explore and celebrate its diverse music culture, voices like Kayla’s are a reminder that the future of entertainment lies in nurturing young talent. With her charm, commitment, and powerful voice, Kayla Thomas is proving that children are not just the future they are the present.
