STARS FC are the champions of Bulawayo Social Soccer League (BSSL) Pool A for the second time in a row after accumulating 117 points with five games to spare.

The all conquering team, the reigning BSSL champions were slow off the blocks but once they got into the groove, they looked invincible, thrashing their opponents into submission many times.

On their way to glory they struck the right notes from mid-table rising up gradually till they broke free, started running as they pleased while the chasing pack fought a fierce battle for the second spot every week.

Last Sunday their hard fought 3-2 win against sworn rivals Ndola Stars was all they needed to land the crown.

The win was interesting in that it carried a lot of bragging rights considering that Stars are a breakaway team from Ndola after a big chuck of the players jumped ship to kick-start that project.

Their exploits have attracted the admiration of many over the years administratively as well as on the field of play.

According to Stars secretary-general Linda Bhebhe the team’s mood is electric, everyone is on cloud nine while waiting to know who their opponent in the decider in the champion of champions final due soon. The final will bring to an end the 2019 season.

“The mood is just electric and everyone is on cloud nine, the race turned easy for us beyond our anticipation as it had started on a tight note.

“As for the remaining games we are still giving it all for glory’s sake, we want to maintain the unbeaten streak.

“This Sunday we are having a date with Fireworks who should just put on fire proof clothes to prevent themselves getting burnt by us,” said Bhebhe.

Second placed Man U posted a favourable result after winning 5-1 away to Cream Tata while Mthala, who still have a chance to gatecrash into that position went home on cloud nine after winning 7-0 against Vule Vale.

In Pool B, log leaders Skippers took one more giant step towards the winner’s podium after edging Finance 3-1.

Mayihlome brushed aside Real Shwelele 2-0 while their nearest rival Real Magwegwe were shocked 3-2 by Njube.

The defeat by Njube threw their plans for a second-place finish into disarray at the crucial stage of the journey which is getting close with each passing match day.

An interesting very emotional derby is on in Cowdray Park this afternoon when Cowdray Park Masters take on their neighbours 94 Strivers.
