Stars’ happy homecoming

NOW the Wild Boys can tell everyone that they have found a good home.
Shooting Stars began life at Sakubva on a winning note when they edged Gunners in a rescheduled Castle Lager Premiership tie yesterday.
The victory was welcomed by the small crowd who chanted slogans and songs in praise of Mutare businessman Esau Mupfumi for backing the Wild Boys’ relocation to Mutare.
Although they are still anchoring the 16-team log, yesterday’s victory could spell better tidings for the Wild Boys.
The club thrust assistant coach Tonderai Marime into the hot seat after they axed Partson Ndabambi, and the Wild Boys responded with a win.
Highly-rated midfielder Silas Chihota scored the priceless goal in the second half.
Marime said he was hopeful his club would build a strong relationship with the Mutare fans.
“I think it’s good that we managed to get this win at this juncture. We want to keep wining our home matches and that way we can make sure we escape relegation.
“I think the victory is also important in that it will go a long in attracting more fans to our home matches here at Sakubva.”
Interestingly, Gunners’ caretaker coach George Madira chose to blame the state of the pitch for his team’s defeat.
“How can you play football in such a pitch?
” I think I can only put the blame on the pitch although it is also true that we missed a number of chances,” he said.
