the dualisation of the Harare-Beitbridge highway has received a major boost following numerous submissions by companies willing to partner the Government in the construction of the highway.
The US$1 billion project is expected to start next year, an official in the Ministry of Transport has confirmed. In an interview with Herald Business, Zimbabwe National Road Administration chief executive Mr Frank Chitukutuku said the Government was working towards the dualisation of the Beitbridge highway as a matter of urgency.
“Under the new policy, efforts are underway to court investors for the dualisation of the Beitbridge-Harare highway.
“The Government is not going to put money into the project and whoever has the money has been given a chance to express their expression of interest with the idea that they will recoup their invested money back after such a period of time,” Mr Chitukutuku said.
He said that work is expected to start along the Harare-Beitbridge highway early next year.
The project will include the rehabilitation of the road as well as the construction of a new one considering the business potential that the highway has in contributing to the national fiscus.
