Crime Reporter
The State yesterday withdrew charges against prominent Mutare businessman and politician Isau Mupfumi due to lack of evidence linking him to the violent clashes that recently occurred in Mutare central business district.
Mupfumi was arrested in May, together with 49 rank marshals and touts following violent clashes between rival machete-wielding gangs at Sakubva Bus Terminus and the Old Harare Rank in the city.
The businessman was out on US$1000 bail while the 49 rank marshals and touts remained in custody after being denied bail.
Mutare magistrate, Mr Tendai Mahwe presided over the matter.
Ms Sandra Mlambo prosecuted.
Mupfumi was represented by lawyer Mr Victor Chinzamba of Mugadza, Chinzamba and Partners.
