should stay away. Writing in his second weekly Press release from Amakhosi Elite, Mhlanga stated unequivocally: “I hear there are calls for Lovemore Majaivana to come back and perform. Where? Here in Bulawayo?
“Did he not do that and you people and your families and friends stayed away and those that came were not willing to pay?
“Did you people not shout at him that you will only pay to see the Soul Brothers from South Africa and not him from Mzilikazi?
“Did you people not say his music was not up to standard (whose standard I wonder?) Majaivana did not re-do his music and acts, all he did was put down his tools and do something else and now all of a sudden his music is great, he must come back on stage?
“Are you just using him as a Facebook pastime hobby when you all know for sure your people refused to pay for his work and will not pay to see him even if he comes out to perform? Why are you people not saying that Majaivana us, the Ndebeles from Bulawayo, Matabeleland, Zimbabwe or Mthwakazi (or whatever you want to call yourselves) say to Majaivana, we have collected US$50 000 for you to perform at B/F Stadium; than just shout come back on stage ‘we order you to do so . . . ? Ridiculous! I hope someone can send this advice to Majaivana wherever he is; your people Majaivana, who were not willing to pay to see your shows because they grew up with you in Mzilikazi but would pay to see the Soul Brothers, have not changed.
“They will not come to your show or if they do they will not pay so that you get paid! Just don’t be fooled by the social network calls. Take it from us who are here on the ground and see amazing work from Bulawayo artistes with the Bulawayo people choosing not to support them, be they in business or political leadership. Why do you think they will support you now when their parents and friends never taught them to value their own?
“Do what they ask for at your own embarrassment. To those that are calling for Maji to come back and perform, just motivate each other to come out in numbers to pay and support your own and you will not need to run a campaign to call Maji or anyone to come out and play. He will know what to do. This is his profession. None of you ever told him to start to sing. Place and focus your energies where the cause is.”
This tirade was probably triggered by the fact that some relatives and friends of the Intombi Zomqangala cast refused to pay for a show that they attended recently at the Amakhosi Elite 400, inadvertently setting Cont Mhlanga on the warpath.
