Ster Kinekor out to promote local films

“We are a global company and we saw it fit to associate with the local film industry as a way of promoting its growth. It is the trend worldwide and if we do not make an effort to support our local productions then no one will,” she said.

Chuma said countries like South Africa and Nigeria screen more local films than foreign movies to develop an appreciation of their local talent.
“Zimbabwe has over the years produced great films like ‘The Gentleman’, ‘Kiriboni The Menace’, among others that have been overlooked while some have not been given enough exposure,” she said.

She added her voice in condemning piracy especially of local productions, declaring it as theft of filmmakers’ hard work
The required format for movies coming through is MOV or MP4 and the administrators at the cinema will require the movie script before determining its suitability for public consumption.

“Anyone is free to come forward with their movies as long as they have rights to it. We are also introducing a ‘Celebrity Friday’ on the last Friday of every month where we will showcase our local celebrities to the people,” added administrator Grace Mutorengwa.
