STEVE CHIKOTI is known for his humour and comedy in song, he is in the league of the late Kenneth Chigodora who was known for tackling serious social issues in a subtle way that would excite many people. Chikoti has taken his humour to another level by releasing a DVD album titled “Live at Alliance” which was recorded live at the Alliance Francaise in Harare.
The soloist who has been in the music industry for quite some time now, said the DVD was an early Christmas present to his multitudes of fans. “Some people want to see what I do in the comfort of their homes. Some have never seen me performing. This DVD will help them understand, appreciate and see what I do during live performances,” said the soft spoken musician.
He said the release of the live DVD album is a step ahead in his musical journey as a solo and afro jazz artiste.
The DVD comprises songs taken from his two albums “Wega” and “Nzendo” (Journeys). His repertoire includes some laid back numbers and engages the crowd by inviting them to sing along with him making it an inclusive show.
The Mutare-based crooner says his music revolves on everyday life issues as well as social commentary and this is evident in such songs as
“Nzendo”, “Marunjeya” and “Ngoma Yerusununguko”, the Shona version of Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song” which shows his great artistry in penning songs that have a wider appeal.
In the DVD, Chikoti engages the crowd by inviting them to sing along making it an inclusive show.
Chikoti has also shared the stage with soloist Steve Makoni on several occasions and both are known for their hilarious lyrics which they effortlessly deliver to their fans.
Chikoti started his solo career in Masvingo before he moved to Mutare where he is now based.
