a sexually transmitted infection.
His wife had allegedly sought assistance from Wonder Chihuri (36) of Johanne Masowe weChishanu Church since her child was having nightmares.
It is alleged that on April 24 this year the 17-year-old woman went to “Madzibaba Chihuri’s” shrine where she was the last in a queue of many women.
When her turn came, she knelt in front of the “prophet” who started speaking in tongues and sprinkled her with an ointment on the forehead and chest.
Madzibaba Chihuri, it is alleged, instructed the woman to collect leaves of a water plant from a nearby stream.
The complainant went to the stream, which was in the middle of a maize field and tall grass. When she got to the stream the prophet allegedly emerged from the maize field and told her to kneel down for prayers before applying ointment on her forehead and chest again. It is alleged that when Chihuri started praying, the woman felt dizzy and fell to the ground and became unconscious and does not know what happened after. When she woke up, it is alleged, she noticed that it was getting dark and Madzibaba Chihuri was standing beside her.
The complainant noticed that her clothes had been removed and that she had been raped. It is alleged that she quizzed the “prophet” and he told her that he did what was supposed to be done.
The complainant did not tell anyone and the matter came to light when her husband contracted a sexually transmitted infection.
She narrated her ordeal after he had quizzed her. The couple confronted the “prophet” who fled from his shrine and was later arrested following police investigations. Chihuri has since appeared in court charged with rape.
Justice Felistus Chatukuta granted him US$100 bail following an application by his lawyer Mr Godfrey Mapaya.
He was ordered to continue residing at Retreat Farm in Waterfalls and to report once every Friday at Waterfalls Police Station.
His trial has been set for July 19 before regional magistrate Mr Clever Tsikwa.
