CHICKEN Inn head coach Joey Antipas believes his team still has to work harder ahead of the start of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
He said this after watching his provisional squad engage in two friendly matches against Southern Region Division One side Adachi at Luveve Stadium yesterday.
Antipas, who gave those part of his squad of over 33 players, a feel of a game situation, said while they are almost there with their squad, players are still fighting for their places.
Notable additions are club returnees former captain Danny Phiri, Innocent Mucheneka and new addition Thulani Joseph.
For Adachi there was seasoned former Highlanders and Warriors forward Obidiah Tarumbwa and ageing gritty ex-Chicken and Hwange midfield enforcer Thabani Goredema.
Both teams played two exhibition matches in which they appeared not to give their full potential.
Chicken Inn won the first encounter 1-0, Adachi were the better side in the second match, winning 2-1 in the blistering Saturday afternoon heat.
Antipas however didn’t read much in the figures.
He described it as worth his preparations.
“We picked some positives, especially in the first match. There was nothing much to talk about in the second game, we mixed and matched the teams. All the same, what we were after was to give the boys game time,” said Antipas.
Adachi coach, Johannes Ngodzo said he was impressed his assessment plans were on course.
“Truth be told, this was a preparatory match. We are co-ordinating and assembling our squad. So far, so good,” said the soft-spoken coach.
