A SCHOOL in Mbire District was yesterday stripped off its roof by a storm that swept through the area with local authorities

urging for the construction of structures sensitive to climate change induced disasters.

Learners at Hambe Primary School in Ward 7 under Chief Chitsungo today attended classes in a roofless classroom block

following another incident of a natural disaster which perennially threatens the Dande Valley.

Mbire Rural District Council chairman Councillor Ishmael Chaukura confirmed the disaster saying stakeholders were on board

to address the issue before it seriously affected learners.

“As council, we are worried with these natural disasters that are worsening as a result of climate change issues, our focus so far

is on making sure that our infrastructures are compatible with these new harsh weather realities.

“These phenomena are no longer new to Mbire and each year we are faced with these calamitous scenes, hence our call for a

long lasting measure which ensures that we do not lose lives and properties to weather induced disasters.”
