WOMEN have raised concerns about their safety in Harare’s Central Business District.
They say they were now being openly and repeatedly harassed by rowdy street kids who snatch their belongings.
A number of women, who spoke to H-Metro yesterday, pleaded with the authorities to find ways of dealing with the street kids’ menace.
They say it was now dangerous for them to walk freely in the Harare CBD.
Tariro Maroro said the street kids’ menace has gotten out of hand and the number of women losing their belongings was rising.
“We urge the Council to address the havoc the street kids are causing in the CBD. We longer feel safe walking in the CBD as women, especially downtown,” she said.
Clara Mhunza said an increasing number of women were becoming victims of street kids’ violence.
“We are pleading with the authorities to take measures against the harassment of women by street kids in the city.
“We are pleading with the City council to take action because it’s now scary walking in town.
“The street kids are robbing us in broad daylight.
“They snatch cellphones, handbags and food. We are afraid of them,” Mhunza said.
Paida Muridzo said they were tired of being humiliated by street kids.
“We are tired of losing our valuables.
“These street kids snatch our wigs and run away, embarrassing us in public,” she said.
