Street Set off to good start in women’s league

THEMBALETHU Southern Region Women’s Soccer League outfit Street Set got off to a good start to the season after recording an impressive 4-0 win over Bulawayo Polytechnic last Saturday at Sizinda Ground.

Having seen their first game of the season postponed, Street Set managed to put out a strong performance which also saw their team record a clean sheet. Team captain Alpha Dube, who scored a brace on the day, said the side’s victory was highly influenced by team work.

“I am highly impressed by the great start to the season that we have made as Street Set club, but to be fair enough, I would like to give thanks to the team for their hard work that they put at the training ground and hopefully this win was just a first of many wins to come,” she said.

Club owner Lee Mangena, gave credit to the team’s chief strikers, Dube and Lauren Mupasi who each scored a brace and also said that a top three finish was the least they would accept by the end of the season.

“All thanks to our chief strikers who scored a brace each and I believe that we made better preparations in the build-up to this season compared to the other teams and to be honest we expect to be in the top three of the league by the end of the season,” he said.

In other matches that were played on the day, Inline Academy emerged victorious after posting a 2-0 win against Ubuntu while Highlanders Royals got their three points from a 1-0 victory over Black Boots. ZRP Bulawayo had to settle for a one-all draw against Magwegwe Stars and the game between Sobukhazi and New Orleans was postponed after the latter failed to turn up.
