THE Zimbabwe International Taekwondo Academy has named the final team to take part in the inaugural Ace Taekwondo Tournament set for September 7 at Boskruin Community Centre in Randburg, Gauteng, South Africa.

Zimbabwe is expected to send a strong 23-member squad, which is currently under the tutelage of fifth Dan instructor Evan Brown at Twin Rivers Primary School in Avondale.

The team will be part of over 160 athletes who will be battling it out for medals in a tournament that is open to all Chang Hon Style taekwondo practitioners. Brown said they are happy as Zimbabwe Taekwondo Academy to have named a strong 23-member team that will do duty in South Africa and they are looking forward to bring home some gold medals.“We have selected a strong team made up of 19 juniors and four seniors for the Randburg Ace Tournament. We have been training hard for the past three months and I am happy that everyone is raring to go.

“We will leave the country next week Wednesday and we are looking forward to go and represent the country well. We have been working hard at training and we are expecting do well at the tournament,” said Brown.

Brown is happy that they are now able to take part in international tournaments after a long layoff which was necessitated by the Covid-19.

“The inaugural Ace Tournament is coming after a long time since we last participated in an international tournament. We were disturbed by the Covid-19 and this is going to be our first tournament since 2018.

“There is so much excitement and we are grateful to all the parents who has come on board to support the children in achieving their dream. We are hopeful that we will have some corporates who can come on board and support the athletes as we sorely depend on parent’s support,” added Brown.
