A total of 1 719 voters had cast their ballots by midday in the ongoing Tsholotsho Rural District Council by-elections, with election officials reporting a peaceful voting process and encouraging voter turnout across the three wards.
Providing an update from the Tsholotsho RDC Command Centre, District Elections Officer Mr Phanankosi Mpofu said polling was progressing smoothly in all wards.
“As at 12 noon, we have recorded a peaceful voting process and a good voter turnout. The elections are progressing well,” he said.
Ward 10 recorded the highest turnout, with 875 voters having cast their ballots by midday.
Of these, 202 were male while 673 were female voters, against a total of 2 827 registered voters.
In Ward 1, 520 people had voted by noon, comprising 173 males and 347 females from a total registered voter population of 1 604.
Ward 21 recorded 324 voters by midday, including 107 males and 217 females, out of 1 827 registered voters.
Of the 1 719 voters who had cast their ballots across the three wards by noon, 482 were men while 1 237 were women, indicating a significantly higher turnout among female voters.
Polling is expected to continue until the close of voting at 7pm, with election officials expressing confidence in the orderly conduct of the by-elections.
