One of Zimbabwe’s strongest men, Jonathan ‘Mr Mat’ Muvingi is looking forward to proving that he is indeed the strongest man in the region despite a setback during the recently held inaugural Strongman Zimbabwe competition.
Mr Mat had high hopes to win the contest but a lack of techniques hindered the Zimbabwe team’s high anticipations.
He said he is now working on mastering the techniques of lifting 130 and 150 kgs of sand sacks.
Mr Mat is currently working on the techniques and pleaded for more support.
“The competition was the first of its kind in Zimbabwe and we should expect anything.
“We just need to celebrate what we managed to do because we were competition against those who have been doing this for many years.
“Our team needs time to prepare and we also need proper equipment. To achieve this, we are calling for sponsors to come on board and assist us.
“This competition needs more support than anything else, support to get the proper gym and this needs companies to work with us so that we uplift the game,” he said.
Mr Mat said people have to understand the competition.
“There is a need for people to understand this competition, so much awareness needs to be spread throughout the country.
“We need to have ideas and proper workshops for the success of this competition.”
He competed against a Zambian side who have been holding the competition every year.
Team Zimbabwe consisted of Anorld ‘Oxman’ Zikhali, Chido Maenzanise, Kedha among others.
Strongman Association founder Knowledge Musengi is working hard towards taking the competition to the highest level and preparations for upcoming events are underway.
