STUDENT DEVELOPS APP FOR COLLEAGUES IN RURAL AREAS

Mangaliso Kabulika

A UNIVERSITY of Zimbabwe student is developing an application aimed at empowering students in rural areas to have easier access to educational materials such as textbooks, notes and other necessary learning materials.

The app is being developed by Thembelisa Mavhiza, who is studying Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. The app is being funded by Huawei Technologies and when completed, it will be distributed to computer laboratories in rural schools to ensure easy access to information.

It will be free and can only be accessed at rural schools’ computer laboratories through the Huawei Cloud.

“Some students in rural areas do not have text books or computers, but this app will help bridge that gap. The app will have notes and relevant information on various subjects for a better understanding,” said Thembelisa.
