GLEN Norah High 2 students have clashed with City of Harare employees following an outbreak of fire.

Council employees blame the students for smoking, and engaging in immoral conducts in tall grasses, and claim this might have caused the fire.

On the other hand, students claim Council employees were behind the inferno.

Environmental Management Agency Education and Publicity Manager, Amkela Sidange, said dates to mark the beginning of the fire season have since been released, urging people to manage fires.

“The Agency is working together with the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement, through structures of the Agritex and local authorities, down to ward level, to ensure fire management is entrenched at grassroots level,” said Sidange.

“Fire season is to be gazetted annually and the 2022 season begins on July 31 to November 30.

“Decision was arrived at after realisation that the country was experiencing fires, outside the statutory fire season, due to climate change impacts, which resulted in the shift in seasons,” she said.

Sidange said fire management awareness campaigns have since started, around the country, to ensure all vulnerable provinces and districts were covered, targeting farm and village levels.
