Students hail Cimas Health Group for innovation

Various students have commended Cimas Health Group, a leading local private medical aid society and health service provider, for its commitment to empowering young innovators in healthcare.

This praise follows the launch of Healthathon 2.0, a competition being held in partnership with the Harare Institute of Technology (HIT). The initiative aims to uncover and nurture talented individuals, with the top innovator set to receive a US$1 500 cash prize and an exclusive opportunity to hone their skills at HIT.

Running under the theme, “Transforming Healthcare: Pioneering Tomorrow’s Health Solutions,” the competition aims to bring together a diverse group of students, professionals and innovators to develop cutting-edge solutions addressing the most pressing challenges in the healthcare industry.

“The Healthathon 2.0 competition is a fantastic opportunity for young innovators to make a meaningful impact in healthcare,” Tinashe Fombe a student at HIT said.

“We applaud Cimas Health Group for recognising the potential of young minds and investing in our  future.”

University of Zimbabwe student, Tanaka Taombe, emphasised the importance of investing in healthcare innovation, urging other institutions to follow suit.

“Every student has a potential solution to our pressing health challenges. Hosting competitions like Healthathon 2.0 will ultimately uncover lasting solutions to our healthcare needs.”

This competition began on October 14 and participants were asked to submit proposals for cutting-edge solutions leveraging AI in healthcare.

The period for submission closed on Thursday and only selected applicants will proceed to the final list.

Speaking to journalists recently, Cimas Health Group chief executive, Mr Vuli Ndlovu, said an online induction event is scheduled for October 27, followed by the finals on November 1, where a specialist panel of judges will identify the winning innovators.

“We will then identify the winner. On November 1, we have the final event, where a specialist panel of judges will evaluate entries based on a defined criteria to select the winning innovators.”

The winners will receive lucrative cash prizes, with the first prize ranging from US$1 500, second prize US$1 000, and varying amounts for third to fifth positions. In addition, the winners will have the opportunity to scale up their innovations                         at HIT.
