It was glitz and glamour as three students who are childhood friends, hosted a vintage dinner of eras in Bindura to unite people from all walks of life and age groups to bring back our African cultural and ethical values.
Guests were dressed in outfits from the 1960s down to the 2000s and the agenda was to discuss how modernisation and westernisation has eroded African values and ethics.
One of the presenters, Mr Garikai Kadzamira said the purpose of the event was to get back to our roots.
“We have values and ethics that we maintain as a people but we are drifting from these because of education and civilisation,” he said.
“The purpose of this event is to try and bring back our cultural, moral and ethical values as Africans. We are fortunate to be African.
“Let’s embrace our Africanism, love ourselves and stand by our principles so that we are not swept away by foreign cultures.”
The trio are Simbarashe Rwizi, student at Ruwa Vocational Training Center doing automotive engineering, Donald Kadzamira, student pilot at Blue Chip flight school in South Africa and Methuselah Chiripilah student at Midlands State University doing risk management.
Kadzamira canceled his flight back to school while the others used their pocket money to pull together the event.
Chiripilah said they had their first dinner as youth deliberating on how to get things right and decided to include influential and elderly people in trying to restore the essence of humanity.
“On the business side, youth enter into business with a mindset of competition and jealousy rather than collaboration. We are saying let’s lift each other as we rise,” he said.
Kadzamira said Africa is a rich continent and everyone was born an entrepreneur.
“We brought together people from different eras to discuss how things changed.
“What is it to be human in health, business, education and social life. We want to create independent thinkers?” he said.
“I canceled my flight so that we can host this event, we also used our pocket money while the other funds came from our parents.”
