Students shouldn’t depart from cultural norms

University life is a melting pot of cultures, where students from diverse backgrounds come together to learn, grow, and share their experiences.

One of the most striking features of university life is its cultural diversity.

Students hail from various regions, countries, and communities, each bringing their unique traditions, languages, and perspectives.

This diversity creates an environment where students learn from one another, broadening their understanding of different worlds.

In my writing, I emphasise the importance of adhering to good culture and morals.

One observation I have made and always make while at university or college is that many students have drifted away from their original cultures.

I know many still want to understand who am I?

Offcourse, I am a student.

This week, I come in peace, urging all students to stay true to the values of good culture and morals.

Many of our fellow students have departed from their commendable cultural practices after interacting with fellow students from different backgrounds.

As students embark on their journey through college or university, they encounter diverse cultures, beliefs, and lifestyles.

While this exposure is often enriching, it is crucial for students to remain anchored in their own culture and morals.

The values instilled by family and community should not be cast aside, even when faced with new experiences and influences.

One of the most important aspects of education is not just academic learning but also personal growth.

This growth is grounded in principles of respect, kindness, and integrity that form the foundation of culture.

As the renowned author Maya Angelou once said, “I have learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

Maintaining good manners and respect for elders is not just a cultural norm but it is a way to foster positive relationships.

Being well-mannered, dressing appropriately, and speaking respectfully are integral parts of our culture.

In college, students often find themselves in situations that challenge their beliefs and values.

To be honest, themptation to conform to the majority is usually strong, but straying too far from one’s cultural roots normally lead to a loss of identity.

It is essential for students to remember that their culture serves as a source of identity and guidance.

To be yourself in a world that constantly tries to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.

Fellow students, the academic environment is mostly overwhelming.

The pursuit of grades and success sometimes overshadows the importance of character and ethics.

It is true that some students prioritise independence at the expense of their moral values.

In our knowledge, we must recognise that education is not solely defined by grades but it is also about becoming a well-rounded individual.

The ability to balance academic responsibilities with ethical behaviour should be a crucial skill that serves students well beyond their college years. Unfortunately, some students stray from their morals, engaging in behaviours that do not reflect their upbringing.

This departure often results from colleages’ influence and the freedom that college life offers. However, maintaining a strong sense of cultural identity serves as a protective barrier against such influences.

Last year, I wrote that charity begins at home, not at college and that remains true.

When students understand the “why” behind their values and culture, they are better equipped to overcome the challenges of college life.

While college is a time for exploration and self-discovery, students should not abandon their culture and morals.

Upholding good manners and ethical behaviour are essential components of a successful and fulfilling college experience.

By staying true to their roots, students not only enrich their own lives but also contribute positively to the community around them.

As students forge their paths in academia and beyond, they should remember that their cultural heritage is a treasure that deserves to be preserved and celebrated.

Going to college is an opportunity for change, and even the most prepared students are likely to face hurdles as they adjust.

College introduces a new environment, novel situations, and different expectations, all of which can create pressures that students may not be accustomed to handling.

Upon starting tertiary education, it is normal for students to feel influenced by their new found friends, belief systems, and their place within this new landscape.

The life of students at college or university is a unique blend of academic rigor, personal growth, and social exploration.

This transformative period is marked by a range of experiences that shape their identities and future paths.

Academically, students face significant challenges, and socially, college life is diverse.

Students come from various backgrounds, bringing different perspectives and cultures into the mix.

This diversity provides a rich environment for interaction, where students can form friendships that may last a lifetime or may not.

Many students enter college eager to meet new people and expand their social circles, leading to relationships that can range from casual encounters to serious commitments.

Beyond academics and social life, college is a crucial time for individual development.

Students are often encouraged to engage in self-reflection, discover their passions, and set future goals.

This period allows them to explore their values, beliefs, and aspirations.

Despite the exciting aspects of college life, students also face challenges, including financial stress and academic pressure, which can push them out of their comfort zones.

Even in such challenging situations, do not stray from your cultural roots.

The life of students at college or university is filled with opportunities for academic achievement, social interaction, and maturity stage.

While the journey has many challenges, it is also a time for self-discovery that shapes their future.

Students often find themselves reevaluating their beliefs and values, influenced by the new ideas and perspectives they encounter.

While cultural diversity offers numerous benefits, it ueually present challenges, including cultural misunderstandings or biases.

My wish is to see students remain anchored in their cultures, which is crucial in a university setting.
