This year, Bulawayo will host the congress that will be held from Friday to Sunday.
The incumbent board, which had been in office for the past two years was dissolved in Mutare on 25 February during the 21st February Movement celebrations.
The move was as a result of an emergency meeting, which was held in Mutare.
The provincial secretary general for Bulawayo, Farai Mteliso said the board was dissolved because it was ineffective and failing to address issues affecting students.
He said its dissolution was long overdue because most of the people who were in the board were no longer students.
“We ascertained that the board was ineffective and it was failing to address the needs of students.
“Most of them were no longer students and they were failing to address issues affecting students,” said Mteliso.
He said ZICOSU is an organisation that deals with the immediate needs of students.
“It coordinates and deals with the issues that affect students. It addresses student needs and grievances using the proper channels,” said Mteliso.
ZICOSU was established in 2003 in order to advocate for students’ right.
Mteliso said all provinces should submit names of five delegates and the institutions they come from before Wednesday.
“Preparations are at an advanced stage,” he said.
