University students have been implored to embrace artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies to remain competitive in an increasingly technology-driven world.
Speaking at an AI workshop, The Herald Editor Mrs Victoria Ruzvidzo said digital literacy had become a necessity rather than an advantage, as employers increasingly seek graduates who can navigate digital environments and adapt to emerging technologies.
“Digital literacy is no longer an added advantage. It is a fundamental requirement for success in the modern economy,” she said.
She said AI was transforming sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, manufacturing, finance, media and education, making it essential for young people to acquire skills in artificial intelligence, data analytics, digital communication and innovation.
She encouraged students to position themselves at the forefront of technological change, saying digital skills would enhance employability while creating opportunities for entrepreneurship and leadership.
Participants welcomed the workshop, saying it had provided valuable insights into the practical application of AI in their respective fields.
Final-year student, Mr Tadewa Nashezimu, said understanding AI would help graduates adapt more easily to the corporate environment.
Another participant, Ms Mavukwa Simakuni, a Psychology student, said she was keen to explore how AI could be integrated into psychological practice and training.
The workshop forms part of broader efforts to equip Zimbabwean students with the skills needed to participate effectively in a rapidly evolving digital economy.
