CAPS UNITED’S teenage sensation Blessing Nyamuzihwa proved why he is rated as one of the best emerging talents in the country with a dazzling 10-minute show on his Premiership debut as Makepekepe and Harare City played out a goalless draw at Rufaro yesterday.
Caps United, who now have 21 points dropped a place down the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League table to eighth while City remain sixth.
The main plot centred on Harare City coach, Taurai Mangwiro, who was facing his former paymasters for the first time since dumping Caps United at the end of last season.
However, it was 18-year-old Nyamuzihwa, nicknamed Ras Pompy, who stole the limelight.
New Caps United coach Mark Mathe threw the pint sized Prince Edward school boy into the deep end in the last ten minutes and Nyamuzihwa’s sleek moves nearly created a later winner for United.
Nyamuzihwa embarrassed Harare City’s seasoned defender Crispen Dickson with only his second touch of the ball.
In a flash, he turned and coolly slipped the ball between the legs of the tall defender, who had a torrid time trying to contain the youngster.
After the match, the teenager was showered with money by the Caps United supporters housed at the City End. Denmark-bound leftback Ronald Pfumbidzayi bade farewell to Makepekepe and was impressive in his last match.
Pfumbidzai, who has been signed by Danish Superliga side Hobro IK, saluted the fans after the match.
“It is painful to leave these fans, they have been fantastic and my only wish is for Caps United to win the league title at the end of the season. Yes, there were problems at Caps here and there but at the end of the day I know this is the team that gave me the platform,” said the roving leftback.
Both coaches lamented the missed chances although Mathe appeared the happier of the two.
“I am happy with the point, we played a tough team, who also have a good coach,” said Mathe.
Mangwiro was disappointed.
“We wanted the three points as the home team but we failed to convert our chances,” he said.
