Tawanda Marwizi Recently in Tokwe Mkosi
Dendera musician Sulumani Chimbetu partnered National Eye Security, ZLG and Afrochine in donating to the people that were affected by floods near Tokwe-Mukosi Dam in Masvingo.
The musician teamed up with the organisations to donate eight tonnes of mealie-meal, cooking oil, cabbages and more than 10 000 litres of purified water.
The goods worth US$13 000 were handed over to Minister of State for Provincial Affairs in Masvingo Titus Maluleke at Zunga Primary School in Chivi.
Chimbetu failed to turn up for the donation but his marketing manager Trevor Jakachira said they have decided to partner these organisations for a charity cause.
“We got the news in the media recently and we got touched by this situation which gave us the courage to speak to our business friends about a charity move,” he said.
He added that other artistes must also take the responsibility and come to donate the little they can get to those affected families.
“If artistes come with the little they have I am sure these people will have something to eat as they prepare to go to their resettlements,” said Jakachira.
Maluleke who received the donations said the musician should be emulated for his works.
“Others should follow this because the musician and his partners have done a job that is great,” said Maluleke.
He added that people should come and continue donating the little they have in order to assist.
“So far we have more than 600 families who are harboured at these pick-up points and they need food while they await for their turns to go to the resettlement areas.”
He called upon musicians, artistes, business people and ordinary people to donate and assist the affected families, who are living in very dire conditions.
