Suluman Chimbetu and his Orchestra Dendera Kings are not taking a break this January. Their busy schedule continues tonight when they perform at Big Apple in the city centre while on Sunday they go to Club Las Vegas for what has been dubbed “Chibaba Chenyuchi Family Show” in celebration of his latest album “Gunship”.
At Las Vegas the group is expected to perform back-to-back with the duo of DJ Flabba and Dr Zobha.
Led by “captain” Suluman Chimbetu, energy will be high on stage as the group performs at one of their favourite joints in the capital Harare.
The group’s publicist Joe “Local” Nyamungoma said the family show was another opportunity to celebrate the success of the new album.
“So far the new album has been well received and there are a number of tracks that have become instants hits. There is ‘Nyuchi’, ‘Idah Nhoro’ , ‘Phone’ and last but least ‘Moto’. however there are still those fans who have not yet warmed up to the other songs and this is the chance for them to come and enjoy the music,” he said.
He urged fans to come to Club Las Vegas for a great show.
Like their previous shows at Club Las Vegas, the Sunday gig brings a lot of fond memories of the late Simon Chimbetu who used to perform there.
A lot is expected at Big Apple in the capital tonight as Chimbetu performs for the first time at the venue since the release of his new album.
Nyamungoma was optimistic that people will attend the show in their numbers.
“People have been supporting “Gunship” and we are optimistic that tonight they will come to witness the works of the captain who is working to improve day by day,” said Nyamungoma.
Big Apple is the same venue where Sulu’s cousin Tryson made history in his career when one person attended his show.
Nyamungoma said whenever Sulu takes to the stage fans are assured of a thrilling act from start to finish as they are working tirelessly to improve on choreography.
“Every show is different and we cannot predictable what will be introduced on the show as we have creative dancers,” he said.
The four-time NAMA award winner has kept dendera music alive and perhaps will continue to be the torch bearer in the genre due to his level-headedness.
