Musicians Sulumani Chimbetu and Jah Prayzah’s managers almost fought after exchanging harsh words at a show on Sunday at Mega 1 Bar in Graniteside.
The managers had a misunderstanding over performance slots at the show where the musicians were sharing the stage.
Filda Muchabaiwa, Jah Prayzah’s manager told Pliers Puraene, Sulu’s show manager to order his band to go on stage but the latter refused saying Jah Prayzah had prematurely ended his slot.
One member of Sulu’s team is said to have harshly told Muchabaiwa that she had no authority to tell them what to do and the argument turned ugly until Muchabaiwa moved away. “The fiasco started after she told them to go on stage and they refused saying she was not the right person to tell them the time perform,” said a source that witnessed the incident.
He added that Muchabaiwa became furious and told Sulu’s manager that they did not have respect for fans.
The source said the two musicians had agreed that Jah Prayzah would play from 5pm to 7pm and Sulu would take over until 9pm. Sulu came on stage at around 8 pm.
Muchabaiwa confirmed the confrontation but could not divulge much information.
“Yes I told them to go on stage and they refused giving their reasons and I just left them but I had told them that fans were complaining,” said Muchabaiwa.
Puraene referred all questions to Sulu’s publicist Joe Nyamungoma. Nyamungoma said he had no idea about the incident.
“I think it happened when I was outside with Sulu. I did not hear about it,” said Nyamungoma.
Meanwhile Jacob Moyana who was denied time to perform at that same show claimed he was stopped by Jah Prayzah’s team.
“They told me that what I play is not music. It was unfair,” said Moyana.
Muchabaiwa dismissed the “Munotidako” song maker’s claims saying he was late for the show.
“Artistes should learn to be professional.
“He was told about the time he was supposed to be on stage and he came late so there was no way we could jeopardise our time. We have fans to respect and a brand to protect,” she said.
