IT was a battle of Bakhuzeni against Batai munhu as Martin Sibanda and Ndolwane Super Sounds shared the stage with Sulumani Chimbetu backed by Orchestra Dendera Kings in Plumtree on Friday night. An appreciative crowd that braved the chilly weather until about 4am when Sulu played his last song, went crazy when Sibanda played Sekukubi and Sulu played Batai munhu.

The two musicians in separate interviews after the show indicated they wanted to work on a joint project.
“This is my first time to share the stage with Sulu, this guy is big and I respect his status in music. To share the stage with him is an honour and I hope this is the start of big things to come,” said Sibanda after a three- hour performance.

Said Chimbetu: “I am happy to have played in front of Plumtree fans. This is my first time here, I have always passed by on my way to Botswana. I got several requests to stage a show here and I am happy I finally responded.

“I am also happy with the response and I hope next time it will be bigger and better.
“It is also my first time to share the stage with Ndolwane. My isiNdebele is not good but I always listen to their music on radio and I will soon invite them to Harare so that we have a show together. I think this is the beginning of big things to come and I want to have a duet with Martin in the studio and produce a song together because he has the talent.”

Sibanda and his group, which he calls amajongosi literally meaning trainees following the split with long time group partner Charles Zwane got onto the stage at 11pm.

He played Donsa and Amaginqigonqo from the original Ndolwane and Bakhuzeni, Sekukubi and Wubudzabgwe from his solo album Bakhuzeni.
Fans went crazy when he played Sekukubi, which has the famous lines “umuntu odelel’abanye uyakhuzwa” as they sang along.

Ironically the two songs, Sekukubi and Batai munhu have a similar theme of rebuking a bad person in society.
When Chimbetu went on stage after 2am, fans went crazy calling for the song Sean Timba (Batai munhu).

He played golden oldies from his father the late Simon Chimbetu’s albums and some from his latest offerings.
Some of the songs he played are Nhomborokishini, Rukato, Dzandipedza mafuta, Spare wheel, Ndarangarira musi watisiya gamba, Mukoma Sam and Batai munhu.

Earlier in the day Ndolwane Super Sounds had played in front of thousands of Zanu-PF supporters at Somhlolo Stadium in Lupane where President Mugabe addressed a rally.

Ndolwane Super Sounds and Dendera Kings shared the stage again at Athens in Esigodini on Saturday night as the two groups start to cement their relationship.
