Diamond MUSICA and dendera artiste Suluman Chimbetu have recorded a song titled “Mama” dedicated to the late Angela Chimbetu, who was the wife of the legendary singer Simon. The collaboration, which was recorded at Metro Studios some weeks before Angela’s death, is featured on Diamond Musica’s upcoming album.
“The song talks about the motherly love and it has that catchy melody and vibe especially for all the mothers out there. On this particular song we dedicated it to Angela Chimbetu.
“It is unfortunate that she died without having listened to it but she was aware that we were doing the song,” Pitschou Lumiere, the lead vocalist, said.
Diamond Musica, who recently reunited with their lead guitarist Shaka Zulu, will perform at Jazz 105 this weekend as part of a welcome show to one of the founding members.
According to Pitschou, Diamond Musica (The New Image) has been rejuvenated by the return of Shaka.
“He has been the essential missing piece to make our musical puzzle a complete one and already there are signs that what we have set out to achieve will come to fruition since he has seamlessly fitted into the group. The fans have also been impressed and given him a warm reception,” he said.
The new album will also feature two songs “Focus” and “Dollar” as well as a remix of “Amaule” as Diamond Musica’s comeback trail gathers momentum.
It remains to be seen whether they will match, let alone surpass, the lofty standards they set themselves during their heyday when the hit song “This Is Good” catapulted them to instant fame.
