SULUMAN Chimbetu is set to perform at the Democratic Republic of Congo’s 63rd independence anniversary for the Zimbabwean Chapter.
The event, which will take place on June 30 at the Rainbow Towers, under the theme ‘Business Network and Fundraising Dinner’.
Diamond Musica, led by Pitshou Lumiere, will be the main act.
Other guest performances will include Shaka Zulu, Kaninda Dhodi, Real Sounds of Africa and DJ Ben.
Suluman expressed his gratitude for being invited to perform at such a significant event and promised to preach the gospel of peace and unity.
The event aims to raise funds for Congolese charities to assist those affected by civil unrest.
“DRC and Zimbabwe enjoy bilateral relations which should be maintained all the time.
“In this case, it’s an honour for me and my camp to be performing at this event, which means a lot for the two nations.
“I was really humbled when the event organisers considered us to come and perform at this event, which means we have something special to offer,” he said.
Suluman urged Zimbabweans to embrace Congolese who have settled well in Zimbabwe.
“In Zimbabwe we have a big Congolese population who now call this country their own home.
“Most of them fled the civil war and found sanctuary in Zimbabwe. As such, it’s an honour to be part of these celebrations where we are going to preach the gospel of unity, peace and love.”
In a separate interview, Pitshou urged music fans to show up in numbers for the event meant to raise funds to assist Congolese charities.
“We have done all the groundwork to ensure that the event lives up to its billing. The 63rd DRC independence celebrations come at a time when there is a civil war in the eastern parts of my native country.
“Despite the civil unrest in some parts of the DRC, my heart bleeds for some of the displaced people in my country who need urgent help.
“We are going to send some of the proceeds to our home country as a way of assisting them to better their lives.
“I’m really impressed by the response of fans who are making enquiries to book for dinner tables at the forthcoming event.
“We call on diplomats, the corporate world and the public to come and celebrate with us on June 30,” he said.
DRC gained independence from Belgium on June 30, 1960.
