THE King of Dendera music Suluman Chimbetu will this Friday stage a show at Khombani Africa Lodge in Plumtree and the following day he will be at Esigodini. Both shows are scheduled to kick off at 8pm. The shows will be the first for Sulu in both towns and the Sean Timba hitmaker looks set to be warmly received as fans have started talking about his visit.
Bulawayo has become Sulu’s second home but was yet to stage shows in these smaller towns.
In an interview, Sulu’s operations manager Pliers Puraene said they had decided to take music to fans in these areas after realising that many of them were travelling to as far as Bulwayo to attend Sulu’s shows.
“People have often travelled from Plumtree and Esigoini to watch our shows in Bulawayo and we have decided to bring Dendera music to their doorstep,” said Puraene.
He also urged fans to come in their numbers saying a lot was in store for them.
“We are going to give our best performances in both shows and fans by now know what Sulu is all about. We prepared adequately for the two shows as we want to given fans value for their money,” he said.
Sulu became a hit with his last album, Syllabus, which features the famous song, Sean Timba that has became a popular anthem across the country.
“We have prepared a special menu for fans. Apart from new dance routines, we will play new songs, most of them have never been played before,” said Puraene.
Meanwhile, preparations for the Simon Chimbetu commemorations are at an advanced stage.
The commemorations running under the theme “Celebrating The Life Of A Hero And Music Icon” are scheduled for the whole of next month.
Orchestra Dendera Kings will start the commemorations in Beitbridge on 2 August and will be in Bulawayo the next day.
Harare will host a tributary show on 7 August and a family show at the Harare gardens on 11 August.
Kadoma will get a feel of the Batai Munhu wave on 8 August and Victoria Falls will host two shows on 9 and 26 August.
The main concert will be in Chinhoyi on 16 August with Mutare, Rusape, Hwange and Masvingo getting a share of the fun on 16, 17, 23 and 30 respectively.
“We have made sure that even fans as far as Rusape and Hwange, are part of the commemorations. We are celebrating the life of Simon and we want to visit all our fans across the country,” said Puraene.
A compilation album with the who is who in the country’s music scene is being prepared in honour of the late Chopper Chimbetu.
