Despite persistent rains that fell over Beitbridge on Saturday evening, the city’s partygoers were not deterred as Sulumani Chimbetu delivered a spectacular three-hour performance that kept fans dancing until the early hours of Sunday.

The wet weather initially kept crowds away, and by 10pm the venue remained sparsely populated, with light showers casting doubt over whether the gig would take place. However, the anticipation of Sulumani Chimbetu, his band, and Zimdancehall star Ndunge Yut kept hope alive for those in attendance.
By midnight, only a handful of fans had braved the rain, despite the show being hyped throughout the day as one of the most anticipated events at the country’s busiest border town.
Sekuru Stavo, a versatile chanter, helped turn the tide with an interactive set that invited attendees on stage to sing and dance, even mimicking legendary artistes like Alick Macheso. The mood gradually lifted, and the arrival of Ndunge Yut ignited the crowd further, with a repertoire spanning classic hits like Benzi Ndini, Kutamba Here, and the all-time favourite Tese Tirima.

An hour later, the Orchestra Dendera Kings took the stage to warm up the audience, building energy and singalong momentum before the main act, Suluman Chimbetu, took over at exactly 2:19am.
For three hours, Sulu delivered an electrifying set, performing over 25 songs including his latest hits Tiite Tiite, Bvuma Kusara, Ngirozi, Chirongo, and Fara Nezvako. His flawless guitar work and the band’s catchy dance moves kept the crowd engaged until 5am.
Suluman Chimbetu’s performance was described as unstoppable and mature, while Ndunge Yut brought unmatched energy that had fans fully immersed in the night’s celebrations. – Follow on X: @mthabisi_mthire
