tomorrow for the first time in more than two years.
The musician’s popularity and confidence have been on the rise since the release of his chart-topping album “Non-Stop”.
Kadoma is just but one of the many places Sulu, as he is fondly known by his legion of fans, is set to make a stopover as he journeys around the country promoting his album.
Sulu said: “We have been performing more in Harare than in other towns in the country but our fans are demanding that we visit them just like my father (the late Simon) used to do.
“So Kadoma is my first stop during the tour of Zimbabwe which is going to take some time as we have carefully chosen our destinations, venues and dates so that we can still give Harare and its surrounding towns a dose of what they are used to.”
Sulu is expected to thrill music fans in Kadoma at the Grand Hotel, a venue where the name Chimbetu is not new at all.
“I have played there before but it has been long, I think the last time must be around 2008. “How-ever, the place used to be father’s favourite hunting ground and I intend to make it my own as well,” he said.
The promoter of the show Polite Kambamura who has the responsibility of running Kadoma’s oldest hotel says getting Sulu to pay the mining town a visit was an uphill task.
“I have been on the waiting list for a very long time. It is increasingly becoming difficult to get Orchestra Dendera Kings to perform in small towns. Most of the time the band is booked and sometimes you wonder if a breakthrough would be possible.
“However, I am thrilled at the decision that he has made to try and give all Zimbabweans an equal opportunity when it comes to live perfor-mances – at least people like us here can also benefit,” Kambamura said.
Sulu joins the likes of Sungura maestro Alick Macheso and Tongai “Dhewa” Moyo as the regular big name performers at Grand Hotel.
Dhewa is also scheduled to thrill fans at the same venue next week in yet another high profile gig in the city.
