Summer Sevens series on in Bulawayo

MATABELELAND rugby development officer, George Mukorera, says all is set for the Summer Sevens Series at Hartsfield in Bulawayo this morning with eight teams taking part. Bulawayo teams — Panthers, Old Miltonians and Busters — will join Gweru, Zvishavane Bulls, Masvingo and NUST in the tourney with the students making their debut appearance at the rugby gala.

Mukorera said the tournament was part of the Zimbabwe Rugby Union’s drive to promote development and will see the teams playing in a round-robin format at the event.

The top two teams from the event will join their counterparts in the Northern Region for the final leg of the Storm Summer Sevens Series at Harare Sports Club on March 8.

“We are looking forward to a full day of rugby action and hosting different teams will be good for the Bulawayo sides. They will get to play teams like Gweru, who are also a good side, and will definitely give them a good run, so we are really looking forward to it,” said Mukorera.

Hartsfield will also have the Nash Inter Schools Rugby tournament starting as the warm-up matches to the Sevens Sevens tourney.
Mukorera said the inter-schools sevens will have 10 teams taking part and they are going to use it as a build-up event for the Zimbabwe Inter Schools tournament.
