GREETINGS beloved nation, in the name of Jesus Christ. Jeremiah 6:16 says, “Thus says the LORD: ‘Stand by the ways and see and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is and walk in it and you shall find rest for your souls.’ But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’” There is a way in which God wants us to stand. When we get onto that way, the Bible says, ‘see’. This speaks of the opening of our eyes of discernment.
When we walk on this way, our spiritual eyes need to be opened so that we may see the path ahead. The Bible says there is a way that seems right to men but leads to death. The Lord was speaking to the children of Israel, that they need to stand in the way and have their spiritual eyes opened so that they may see where the Lord is leading them.
This is the way our forefathers of faith walked in.
These are the ways of God — when you walk in them, you become an extraordinary person, a victor, exempted from any demonic curses from the powers of darkness. The question is, how many people have found this way?
Many times, we claim we are walking in that way, whilst the results show something else. When you begin to walk in this way, you will be untouchable. Your prayer life will begin to change, you will no longer ask God for things, but your prayers will be prayers of thanksgiving.
Your giving will no longer be painful, but you will give with joy because you have found the ways that God speaks of in Jeremiah to the children of Israel. Paul says that I pray that your eyes of understanding be opened. After your eyes are opened, the Bible says you have to ‘ask for the ancient paths’.
When you walk in this way that God is speaking of in Jeremiah 6:16, you begin to ask. Asking in this ‘way’ is permitted. Many times, when I was growing up, I was told that you cannot ask God.
But I later discovered in the Scriptures that even Jesus commanded us to ask, saying, ‘Ask and it shall be given to you; seek and ye shall find; knock and it shall be opened to you.’ So, when we compare our Christian experiences with those of the fathers of faith, we find there are gaps.
They walked in the supernatural — some with greater prosperity and some had nations bow before them.
They maintained greatness. In the book of Acts, we hear that they turned the world upside down. We hear of women like Sarah, who gave birth at the age of 90. Women like Esther in the Book of Esther, who was favoured by a king. We discover that because of their favour, their enemies would die without a sword being used.
It was favour that brought their demise. People like Elijah, who overtook Ahab’s chariot. People like Paul, who was beaten and left for dead, but the next day was seen preaching again.
People like Peter, who was arrested and the next day experienced an angelic visitation that took him out of prison without a jailbreak. We could go on and on about these heroes of faith. They were untouchable — some of their shadows healed the sick.
Now, God is commanding us, as the end-time church, to ask the Holy Spirit what made these heroes of faith what they were.
Mind you, it’s not only them who provided us with perfect examples, we also have people like Papa E.H. Hagin and many others, some of whom are still alive — great men and women of God. And
God is saying, ‘Ask for the ancient paths’. What made them untouchable, mountain movers, giant killers, healers of sickness and disease? What caused them to rise in their Christian experiences? Some of these people understood the principle of honour — they honoured God, they honoured the principles, and they honoured men.
And God says that we should ask, so that we may become like them. They never gave up, but we find that today’s church, when faced with challenges, easily give up, stop praying and stop asking God.
The Bible says, ‘This way is a good way,’ meaning that in this way, you can find good and perfect paths. When you begin walking in this way, the Bible says, ‘You shall find rest for your soul’. So, if you find this way, your soul will come to a place of Sabbath — a place of rest. For many Christians, their souls are not at rest because they have not found this way.
What kind of people were women like Mary, who was engaged but still a virgin and from her womb, the Lord Jesus Christ came because she carried purity? And God says, ‘Ask for the ancient paths’.
