adminCape Town – Premier Soccer League (PSL) giants Mamelodi Sundowns will travel to Zambia to take part in a four-team tournament starting today, but without striker Katlego Mphela.
Mphela made the headlines this week when he signed a three-year contract with the Brazilians’ arch rivals, Kaizer Chiefs, effective from July 1 which infuriated club president Patrice Motsepe.
“Killer” lost his place in the starting line-up since Pitso Mosimane took over the reigns from Johan Neeskens back in December 2012, which also resulted in him losing his place in the national team.
A source close to the North West-born striker told the SowetanLIVE website that the Brazilians are willing to let go of Mphela – but at a fee.
He also added that Sundowns did not want to strengthen the enemy camp by letting go of Mphela at present as they are challenging for the league title against Chiefs.
Mphela’s current contract with Sundowns runs until end of June this year.
The former Bafana Bafana goal-poacher has scored two goals in few substitute appearances this season. – Sport24
