THREE upcoming artists were all smiles after being conferred with certificates of excellence by United Sungura Legends (USL) last weekend.

Simon Nyakatangure, Obert Mhizha of Mhukahuru and Takesure Chari won prize money at a glittering event held in Harare.

Chari, frontman of The Chari Express, pocketed R1 300 plus a certificate of merit.

He was also offered an opportunity to record two songs at any recording studio of his own choice.

Speaking on behalf of the USL committee, Jonathan Musariri congratulated the winners and those who participated in the programme.

“I promise that we are expecting the programme to get better as the committee is seeking partners and sponsors.

“The main aim is to assist and uplift talented but unknown sungura artists. There are various programmes lined up like assistance on recordings, videos and getting airplay, among other things,” said Musariri.

“I encourage musicians and fans to join hands and work as a team.

“By so doing, it will go a long way in helping musicians soldier on no matter how bad the journey might seem.”
