Sungura musician Constance Maraire has released her fourth album, Mwari Havadhakwe, tackling pressing social issues through powerful storytelling.

The musician from Bulawayo said the album was inspired by things she witnesses daily in society, some of which worry and sadden her.
“The title track, Mwari Havadhakwe, carries a strong message against gossip and ill will, urging people to focus on positivity instead of tearing each other down,” she said.

Another standout song, Mimba, addresses the painful reality of men who abandon their responsibilities after impregnating women, only to resurface years later when the child is grown.
“What pains me most is when these men deny responsibility at first, but later, when the child is working or getting married, they suddenly want to claim them,” Maraire lamented.

Through her music, she hopes to inspire listeners to remain strong in the face of life’s challenges.
“I want my songs to encourage people to stay positive, no matter what they are going through,” she said.
Maraire also expressed gratitude to her promoter and sponsor, Elium Phiri, for his unwavering support.

Inspired by the likes of Nicholas “Madzibaba” Zacharia, Maraire, who has performed at national galas, has been in the music industry for over a decade, having penned her first song, Vematongo, while in high school. She has skillfully balanced her role as a social commentator with heartfelt love lyrics that resonate across generations.

With Mwari Havadhakwe, she continues to cement her legacy as a bold and thought-provoking voice in Zimbabwean music.
