HARARE CITY Football Club could once again shake the transfer market as they hunt for a creative midfielder, with Dynamos trickster Ronald “Rooney” Chitiyo and Soccer Star of the Year finalist Raphael Manuvire topping Taurai Mangwiro’s wish list.
The Sunshine Boys, who are preparing for their first CAF Confederations Cup match against AS Adema of Madagascar in the preliminary round in February 2016, are also looking for a left-back and a central defender.
Mangwiro wanted Ronald Pfumbidzai for the left-back role after he returned from a horrible stint at Hobro IK in Denmark, but the former Young Warriors skipper has reportedly opted for his former club Caps United.
“We have to move fast because time is not on our side and we have identified key areas that need to be addressed.
“We will however not go for wholesome changes, we have identified three key positions and that is the left back, centre-back and the attacking linkman.
“For now, I cannot talk of names but what I can confirm is that we will be meeting the executive on Monday,” said Mangwiro.
The Sunday Mail Sport understands that DeMbare talisman Chitiyo, whose contract with the former league champions expires on December 31, is a prime a target.
Dynamos have already opened talks with Chitiyo but the giants appear to be losing grip on the talented midfielder who is also a target of rivals Caps United.
The 23-year-old Chitiyo expressed ignorance of City’s reported interest.
With ageing skipper David Kutyauripo on the other side of 30 and Chrispen Dickson not as effective as he was during the 2014 season, Mangwiro wants an imposing centre-back to compliment the consistent Themba Ndlovu.
Mangwiro has elevated the duo of Tanaka Ruzvidzo and Dexter Mawire to the senior team.
Harare City have until December 31 to submit their squad to CAF.
The 2015 Chibuku Super Cup winners will begin their preseason training on January 7, 2016 and a number of off-season friendlies are being lined up before they plunge into the African safari.
Harare City will begin their journey at home against AS Adema on the weekend of February 12-14 before travelling to Madagascar for the reverse fixture on the weekend of February 26-28.
Should the Sunshine Boys get past AS Adema, Zambian giants Zanaco will be waiting in the first round proper in March.
Harare City secretary-general Mathew Marara said his executive would leave no stone unturned in readying the squad for the continental challenge.
“The coach has identified the weak areas and the possible targets. We are quite confident by end of (this week), we will have landed our targets,” said Marara.
