adminannounced last week that Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory wrote to Harare recently notifying the resumption of relations between the two cities.
Cincinnati is also twinned with Munich of Germany with which Harare enjoys cordial relations.
“We are very pleased to be back in the fold. We hope to pick the pieces from where we left when that relationship was suspended,” he said.
Relations between Harare and Cincinnati collapsed over allegations that Harare did not have democratically elected leadership. This followed the appointment of successive commissions to run the affairs of the city after the dismissal of elected councillors on corruption charges.
Twinning arrangements have several benefits for participating cities as the parties get to exchange technology, skills and cultural experiences. Usually citizens from the twinned cities get to participate in cultural and sports festivals. In other instances the more advanced partner assists the sister city with equipment such as ambulances, fire tenders, and refuse collection trucks.
Mayor Masunda has been very forceful in re-establishing relations and forging new alliances with world cities.
