Sunshine City Festival 2025 roadmap announced

As the entertainment landscape continues to gear up for 2025, with a slow start to the year, promoters and artistes are now actively planning ahead.

Organisers of the much-publicised event dubbed the “Sunshine City Festival” said it was poised to make a significant impact on May 24-25 at Alex Sports Club in Harare.

With the roadmap announced, the festival promises to energise the local scene, providing an exciting line-up and engaging activities for attendees.

A survey by The Herald Arts section has revealed that the organisers are working hard to make the event a success, setting the stage for a memorable celebration of music, culture and community.

The festival organisers, Tamba Events under Braai Out, have announced the line-up of performers.

South African musician, “Toss” (Pholoso Masombuka), will headline the event.

He is known for his kwaito music and Pantsula dance.

Other notable artistes include South African DJ Prince Kaybee and DJ Maphorisa.

Local artistes will also be featured.

These include contemporary singer Feli Nandi, rising star Oriyano, and hip-hop artiste SaintFloew.

The festival aims to create a vibrant atmosphere while celebrating African culture, encouraging attendees to wear a touch of traditional African attire in honour of Africa Day.

In an interview with The Herald Arts, event organiser and director Nigel Chinovhiringa said with only two months away before the festival roars to life, the script is out.

“We are focusing on fewer performers this year to provide more stage time on musicians and better value for money.”

He said preparations were at an advanced stage, with ticket sales already underway.

Contracts are now being finalised for the artistes.

Chinovhiringa noted that the festival will be held over two days to create a diverse experience.

“After last year’s edition, we have taken cognisance of our mistakes and what the crowd wants, and this year’s show is promising to be bigger and better if we work with the script, not changing anything,” he said.

The festival will feature a variety of activities beyond music.

“There will be a marathon with distances of 5km, 10km, and 21km and registration for this event has already begun.”

“I am happy corporate sponsors are coming on board and there is still room for that,” Chinovhiringa added. Additionally, the festival will include a soccer tournament called “Sunshine City Wafa-Wafa,” with participation expected from various clubs and institutions.

“There will also be a dedicated stage for Amapiano and hip-hop music aimed at younger audiences.” Chinovhiringa reiterated the importance of creating fun for families.

“The idea is to have fun,” he said, highlighting the festival’s goal of making it an enjoyable experience for all attendees.

The festival’s preparation process has been meticulous, focusing on logistical details such as venue setup, stage management, and lighting.

With tickets already available at designated points, there is a strong anticipation for the event.

The organisers are leveraging social media for promotion, and fans have shown significant interest.

“We have released our posters on social media, and already fans and revellers have started querying about the event,” Chinovhiringa said.

He said the Sunshine City Festival promises a diverse line-up of performers and engaging activities.
